History of Grande Halte - Città di Mortara hut

At the beginning of the 20th century the hut was built as a hotel and for many decades had an important role for those who climbed up to Col d’Olen, to Capanna Margherita and to the highest peaks of Monte Rosa.

In 1946 the hut was bought by the Mortara division of the Italian Alpine Club. From then on the Grande Halte hut had a second name, “Rifugio città di Mortara” and became an alpine hut in every respect.

Over the years the building has been restructured and renovated passionately, maintaining much of the old furniture and the atmosphere of an historical alpine place. This is why today we can offer you all the warmth and the comfort you need in order to have a pleasant stay here both in winter and summer.
